Xiaomi Just MagSafe’d a Camera Lens Onto a Phone; Calls It the “Modular Optical System”
For now, MOS is just a concept.

Xiaomi has recently tried MagSafe-ing an actual camera lens onto a working prototype of its newly announced Xiaomi 15. It’s called the Modular Optical System, or MOS.
MOS Is a Plug-and-Play Lens that Attaches to the Back of Your Phone, Works With the Same Camera App
The feature allows you to attach a camera lens to the back of your phone magnetically. It’s a simple plug-and-play solution. The lens is powered by the phone’s battery itself, and Xiaomi has used its proprietary “LaserLink” technology, via pogo-pins, for power delivery.

The camera module snaps onto the magnetic ring on the back of the phone, and auto-locks itself. Once in place, the lens can be used to snap photos from within the Camera app, taking advantage of all post-processing “Leica” features that come with the built-in camera system.
In terms of hardware, MOS uses a 4/3-inch, 100MP “Light Fusion X” sensor, with a 35mm, f/1.4 lens. For a bit of reference, the sensor is twice as big as the much hyped 1-inch sensor found on most flagships. This means it’s going to perform noticeably better in low-light and will produce a much natural bokeh.

The lens itself also comes with a rotatable dial that allows you to adjust not only the focus but also the aperture ring to control the amount of light that goes into the camera.
At this point, the idea is merely a concept. Xiaomi has mentioned that it won’t be releasing the module to the public, but instead, is looking at customer feedback. The company also hasn’t shared any details about its pricing. However, it did launch the third-gen photography kit for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra earlier this week.
This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
