How to Stop Windows 11 from Adding Keyboard Layouts Automatically?

While attempting to use the keyboard to type something or write in Windows 11, some users are experiencing a problem where new keyboard layouts are being automatically added to their system without their consent.

This error indicates an issue with mismatched display language and keyboard layout, where your system’s display language isn’t the same as your physical keyboard. Problems with the keyboard layout could arise due to various reasons.

The most common reasons include conflicting software and keyboard driver issues, which can also cause this problem. Having discussed the causes, let us now move on to the potential solutions.

1. Remove Unnecessary Layouts

By removing unwanted layouts, you reduce the number of options displayed in your language selection menu. This allows you to switch between the languages you actively use. Instead of navigating through a long list of layouts, you can access your preferred languages easily.

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Select the Time & Language option, then click on Language & Region.
  3. Click on the three horizontal dots icon from the language that you want the keyboard to remove and choose the Language options. Select Remove from the menu and follow the instructions given.
  4. Repeat these steps for any additional keyboard layouts.

2. Turn Off the Automatic Keyboard Layout

Disabling this option in Windows 11 especially targets how your system manages the keyboard layout. This option is responsible for Windows 11 automatically adding keyboard layouts based on your content or location settings.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select the Setting option.
  2. Locate the Time & Language option and click on it. Then select Typing.
  3. Scroll down to the Advanced Keyboard Settings option.
  4. Find the option labeled Let me set a different input method for each app window.
  5. Uncheck the box next to this option. Once you uncheck this box, Windows 11 will no longer automatically add keyboard layouts based on language detection or other factors.

 3. Remove The Language From Word

Windows 11 manages system-wide keyboard layouts; some languages installed in Microsoft Office applications can also add keyboard layouts. These layouts might be used for spell-checking grammar and grammar suggestions specific to these languages.

  1. Open Word or Excel on your system.
  2. Click on File, then select the Options tab.
  3. Select the language associated with the keyboard that you want to remove.
  4. Restart your PC and check if the keyboard layout is still appearing.

4. Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter.

Windows has built-in troubleshooters designed to help identify and fix common issues. It can identify common keyboard malfunctions like incorrect driver settings, stuck keys, or registry errors.

  1. Click the Start button and open Settings.
  2. Ensure you are in the System section.
  3. Scroll down and click on Troubleshoot.
  4. Choose Other troubleshooters.
  5. Select the Keyboard troubleshooter and click the Run button adjacent to it.

By following these steps, you have regained control over your keyboard layouts in Windows 11 and Microsoft Office programs.
