Snapdragon ‘8s Gen 4’ Expected to Launch on April 2, Won’t Feature New Oryon Cores

The past few days have seen rumors spring up about a new mid-range Qualcomm SoC, and today, the chipmaking giant has announced that it will be holding a launch event for a new Snapdragon chip on April 2, 2025, in China.

The Mid-Range SoC to Skip the “Elite” Moniker; Will Stick to Older Cortex Cores

In a post on Weibo, translated from Chinese, the company has given no exact details on the internal specifications. If previous rumors are anything to go by, it’ll likely be the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the successor to last year’s mid-range 8-series chip, the 8s Gen 3.

Last week, insider Digital Chat Station had tipped that this SoC would be fabricated on TSMC’s N4P 4nm process node but would miss out on the more powerful Oryon cores. This is also why some publications have mentioned that the chip will likely miss out on the “Elite” moniker.

With the event in China, sources have mentioned that Xiaomi and iQOO will be the first customers for this chip and will roll out their first devices sporting the chip in mid-April.

The chip is tipped to sport an octa-core 1+3+2+2 configuration, with benchmark scores hitting more than 2 million on AnTuTu, a step-up from last year’s 8s Gen 3, but slightly lower than it’s non-S counterpart in 8 Gen 3.

The octa core configuration would use a single Cortex X4 prime core, clocked in at 3.21GHz; two performance Cortex A720 cores at 2.8GHz, three A720s at 3.01GHz, and two efficiency A720 cores, running at 2.02GHz. For the GPU, the chip will house the Adreno 825, built on the same generational architecture as the Adreno 830 on the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
