Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 May Get a Huge Architecture Upgrade this Year
Snapdragon’s budget line, the 7 Series will be getting an architectural update with the next generation of chips this year. Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipsets a while ago and while they did offer plenty in terms of generational improvements, this year will see a more prominent upgrade, like is the case with 8 Series, that’ll finally be moving to 3nm.
The next 7 Series SoC, codenamed “Palawan” with the part number SM7675 is reported to feature a new architecture, the same as that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. For a bit of context, the 7+ Gen 2 was built on the same architecture as the 8+ Gen 1.
The older architecture was part of the reason why we saw minimal upgrades this year, with Snapdragon comparing the 7 Gen 3 to the 7 Gen 1 in order to highlight the performance leap. Now, SM7675 mentioned is possibly the 7+ Gen 3 instead of 7 Gen 4, but we aren’t sure at this point.
The SM7675 will come with two different versions with separate frequencies too, which would allow for better market segmentation, but the information right now is pretty limited at this point to jump straight to any conclusions.
This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
