Sea of Thieves Stuck On Loading Screen? Try these fixes
Sea of Thieves stuck on the loading screen is primarily caused by outdated OS, insufficient access rights, Windows Store apps issues, time and region conflict, network issues, device drivers issue, incompatible apps or corrupt game files.
What causes Sea of Thieves to Stuck?
After deeply going through the user reports and analyzing them, we can conclude that the crashing can occur due to several different reasons & some of the reasons that we were able to find are:
- System Requirements: To play the game your system must fulfil the minimum system requirements of Sea of Thieves. And if your system does not fulfil the minimum requirements then Sea of Thieves can be stuck on the loading screen.
- Windows Update: If your system’s OS is outdated then you are prone to many problems and can cause the Sea of Thieves to stuck on the loading screen.
- Access Rights Issues: If the Sea of Thieves cannot access certain files and services due to restricted access, then it can be stuck on the loading screen.
- Store Apps: Windows Store Apps sometimes show errors when these are not launched from Windows Store Library Page. The same is the case with the Sea of Thieves.
- Time and Region: Sea of Thieves checks the date and time automatically over the internet and if the date and time of the computer are different from the region of your computer, it will be stuck on the loading screen.
- Registration Issue with the Store: Sometimes Sea of Thieves could not be registered properly with the Windows Store, which can result in Sea of Thieves Stuck on the loading screen.
- Network Restrictions: If your ISP has restricted some services that are required by the Sea of Thieves to work properly then these restrictions can force Sea of Thieves to stuck on the loading screen.

Minimum System Requirements for Sea of Thieves
The following are the minimum requirements of the system to run the Sea of Thieves. Check if your system fulfils these.

Solution 1: Update the Windows to the Latest Build:
Windows updates patch the software and hardware loopholes in the OS and bring overall improvements in the functionality of the system. If the “Sea of Thieves” is stuck on the loading screen then it can be due to any software or hardware glitch. To update the system, follow the steps below.
- Press the Windows Key + I to open “Windows Setting” & then click on “Update & Security”.
- Then Click on “Check for Updates”. And if updates are available then install them.
- After the system is updated, run “Sea of Thieves” to see if the problem is solved.
Solution 2: Run the Sea of Thieves as an Administrator
If Sea of Thieves cannot access certain files or services on the system due to the privilege issue then this error can also occur. With privileged access as an Administrator, Sea of Thieves may not show this error as it will have elevated access to access all the files.
- Exit the “Sea of Thieves”.
- Right-click on the “Sea of Thieves” icon and then click on “Properties”.
- Click on “Compatibility” Tab.
- Check “Run this program as an administrator”. Then click “Apply” & then click “OK”.
- Run the “Sea of Thieves”
Check if the Sea of Thieves is functioning properly.
Solution 3: Open Sea of Thieves Through Windows 10 Store Library Page
Windows store apps sometimes show problems when not played from within the store itself. So, running “Sea of Thieves” from the Store Library Page can solve the problem.
- In the top right corner click on the Profile Picture after opening the Windows 10 Store.
- Sign out all of the accounts except the email account linked to the game’s purchase signed in, if multiple accounts are signed in.
- Now download any free app in the Windows 10 Store.
- Now launch the “Sea of Thieves” through the Windows 10 Store “Library” page.
Launch the Sea of Thieves and check if the problem is solved.
Solution 4: Change the Time & Region of the System
Sea of Thieves compares the date and time through the internet automatically and if the date and time of the system are different from the region of your system, it will be stuck on the loading screen. So, changing the “Time & Region” may solve the problem.
- Press the Windows + I key together to open “Windows Settings” & then click on the “Time & Language”.
- Check the “Set time automatically” button,
If it is off, then turn it on and,
If it is on then turn it off and then turn it back on. - Check your “Time Zone and Date”.
- Now Click “Region” on the left side of the screen & confirm that the current region is being shown, if not correct it.
- If the language & region is set to English (United States)then change it to English (United Kingdom).
- Reboot your PC
Launch Sea of Thieves to see if the problem has indeed been fixed.
Solution 5: Registering Sea of Thieves in Computer
Another workaround that we came across was where registering Sea of Thieves after registering it with the Windows store worked perfectly. The application might be launching because it isn’t registered completely with the system itself after it was installed.
- Press the Windows key & R key simultaneously to open the Run command box.
- Type “powershell” and press “Enter”.
- Copy & paste the below string into the Powershell & hit “Enter“.
Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
Launch Run Sea of Thieves and check if “Sea of Thieves” is functioning normally.
Solution 6: Use a VPN while Playing Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves can get the error of “stuck on loading screen” due to a network problem. Your ISP may have restricted certain features and services of your network and this restriction can interrupt the connection to the game servers which can result in “Sea of Thieves” stuck on the loading screen. By use of a VPN, we can bypass these restrictions which can then solve the Sea of Thieves stuck on the screen.
- Download and install any VPN of your choice.
- Run your VPN and open it.
- Connect to a server in a chosen location.
Run Sea of Thieves and see if the problem has vanished.
Solution 7: Update Device Drivers of the System
A missing/outdated device driver or drivers of your system can cause Sea of Thieves stuck on loading error.
- Press the “Windows” key, type “Device Manager” and in the resulting list click on the “Device Manager“.
- In the Device Manager find the “Display adapters” heading.
- Now Double-click the “Display adapters” heading to expand it which will show your installed graphics card(s).
- If you are using “Radeon”, “AMD” or “RX/R9/R7/R3” graphics card, then visit Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition Download Page to download Radeon software and then run Radeon software to update the graphics driver of your system.
- If you are using “GeForce”, “Nvidia”, “GTX” or “RTX” then use GeForce Experience Download Page to download the software to update the Graphics Drivers of your system.
- Or otherwise, visit the website of the graphics card manufacturer. Find the drivers according to your OS & then download, install & run the driver.
After updating drivers relaunch the Sea of Thieves to check if it is running without a problem.
Solution 8: Disable Apps Incompatible with the Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves can be stuck on the loading screen due to third-party incompatible applications. Especially the applications which use graphics card e.g. AfterBurner that displays the graphics card usage information. These applications create problems for the game and disabling these applications can solve the problem.
- Find applications that may be problematic with your system. Some examples are AfterBurner, Trend Micro (antivirus), etc.
- Right-click on Task Bar and Click on “Task Manager“.
- Disable these apps by using Task Manager > Start Up tab.
- Restart the system.
Launch the “Sea of Thieves” to see if it is properly functioning.
Solution 9: Run AppsDiagnostic Tool
Windows Store apps can sometimes become too cumbersome to troubleshoot. For this purpose, there is a Microsoft’s utility “Microsoft’s App Diagnostic Tool“. So, running this app diagnostic utility may solve the problem.
- Download the App Diagnostic Tool From Official Microsoft Website.
- Run the AppsDiagnostic tool and then follow the instructions displayed on the screen for troubleshooting issues regarding the Windows Store apps/games.
Launch the “Sea of Thieves” to see if it is working fine now.
Solution 10: Reset the Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves will be stuck on the loading screen if any of its settings are not in conformance with the optimal settings. Reverting to the default settings is a good option to try.
- Clean uninstall Sea of Thieves.
- Press the Windows + R keys together to open run command.
- Type “wsreset.exe” & press “Enter”.
- Install the “Sea of Thieves”.
- Press the Windows + Ikeys together to open Windows Settings & then click on “Apps”.
- Locate & click “Sea of Thieves” on the list displayed.
- Click on “Advanced Options”
- Then click on “Reset”.
- Run Sea of Thieves.
