AMD Ryzen 8000G ‘AM5’ APUs Launching on 31st January & Offer Up To 2.5x Higher Performance than Last-Gen

Sakhtafzarmag, an Iranian Media Outlet claims to have the specifications and release date for the Ryzen 8000G lineup. Moreover, the leak also encompasses a few AM4 products, which isn’t all that surprising since previous leaks already indicate new Ryzen 7 5700X3D and Ryzen 5 5500X3D chips.

AMD Ryzen 8000G: APUs for AM5

The reported Ryzen 8000G series consists of two versions, one with the Pheonix 1 die, and the other with Phoenix 2. All these CPUs also include their respective PRO counterparts, which we will not go over since they are similar in terms of specifications.

The Phoenix 1 flagship, the Ryzen 7 8700G, features 8 full Zen4 cores alongside 16 threads and a boost clock of up to 5.1GHz. The slightly cut-down Ryzen 5 8600G packs 6 cores / 12 threads and clocks at a maximum of 5GHz. Both APUs come with a default 45W/65W TDP, as specified by the G-suffix.

Moving over to the Phoenix 2 variations, these APUs host both Zen4 and Zen4C-dense cores. From this series, we have the Ryzen 5 8500G (6 cores / 12 threads) and the Ryzen 3 8300G (4 cores / 8 threads). AMD has further segmented these offerings into G (45W/65W) and GE (35W) versions.

To demonstrate the iGPU performance, we have the following graph going over the synthetic scores of the Ryzen 7 8700G. As shown, at worst, the RDNA3-equipped iGPU is around 30-40% faster than last-gen. This lead increases to as high as 250% in 3DMark FireStrike.

Since synthetic tests aren’t the be-all and end-all of performance evaluation, let’s sift over the gaming tests as well, which factor in driver optimization as well. CS:GO sees a neat 50% uplift with the new Ryzen 7 8700G.

Other popular e-sports and even AAA titles surprisingly perform much better with RDNA3, but this is almost public information as Ryzen 7 7840HS mini-PCs and laptops are readily available.

Release Date

As for the release date, the leak suggests that AMD will launch the Ryzen 7 8700G, the Ryzen 5 8600G, and the Ryzen 3 8500G on the 31st of January. Likewise, in correspondence to a leak before, there are plans for a Ryzen 7 5700X3D with 8 cores / 16 threads but slower frequencies than the 5800X3D.

And if that wasn’t enough, the site claims that AMD will also launch an entirely new GT series for AM4. This lineup currently includes the Ryzen 5 5600GT and the Ryzen 5 5500GT and will launch in Q1 2024. Lastly, there is also a Ryzen 7 5700 NPU chipset that will be available by the end of January.
