$2,800 RTX 5090 Burns Out After Blown Capacitor Sparks Fire
It isn't the melting power connector.

After reports of melting power connectors on the RTX 5090 Founders Edition, the first known incident of the GPU, specifically the ROG Astral, catching fire has emerged online.
Redditor Impossible-Weight485 shared shocking images of what appears to be a burnt $2,799 RTX 5090.
Surprisingly, this time, the issue isn’t with the power connector.

The user reported that he was casually browsing the web when his PC suddenly shut down. Upon restarting, the GPU caught fire, emitting smoke.
During an inspection for damage, a capacitor on the underside of the GPU, near the PCIe slot, appeared to be the culprit.
The motherboard also exhibited burn marks just above the HERO logo (refer to the attached image above for clarity).
Consistent with previous reports, neither ASUS nor NVIDIA has issued a statement at this point.
However, Steve from GamersNexus has expressed interest in purchasing the card and the motherboard to ensure the issue is thoroughly investigated. Here’s his comment on user’s Reddit post:

It remains unclear how this situation will develop, but we will keep you informed as new information becomes available.
Personally, I find it very alarming that a nearly $2,800 GPU could catch fire.
The fact that a capacitor on the underside of the card, and not the power connector—which has already been in the news—is failing is both confusing and concerning.
It raises questions about the overall quality and reliability of such a high-end product.
