Rebel Wolves Secures a Strategic Investment from NetEase Games
Rebel Wolves, a newly established Polish Studio, has secured an investment from NetEase, a Chinese gaming and tech giant. Rebel Wolves is co-founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Witcher 3’s director, with a small team of developers who have previously worked with CD Projekt Red and have an impressive portfolio due to their work in IPs like The Witcher 1, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077.
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, CEO of Rebel Wolves, claimed that the funding by NetEase was the last missing piece needed to go full throttle.
Having one of the leading global game companies get behind our vision is a great confidence boost and validation for the entire team at Rebel Wolves.
Funding provided by NetEase was the last missing piece needed to go full throttle. With resources available to build a world-class AAA game, we can now focus on what matters most: development.”
NetEase Games president of Global Partnerships and investments, Simon Zhu said while revealing their strategic partnership with Rebel Wolves.
It’s exceedingly rare to have the opportunity to work with an all-star team from the beginning of their journey. Everyone at NetEase Games has been an admirer of the Rebel Wolves team and their previous work.
We quickly discovered our common passion for making great games and their long-term vision for creating a sustainable and creative studio aligns with our strategy of incubating talented creators who are passionate about gaming.
We look forward to having a fruitful collaboration with Rebel Wolves and can’t wait to see how the team will leverage their extensive experience to create even more immersive games enjoyed by fans all over the world.”
Rebel Wolves was established recently, but they have already confirmed that they are working on their first AAA dark fantasy RPG game, which will be the studio’s first game of a new saga. The studio’s goals are ambitious with their games, as stated by Tomaszkiewicz.
We’re industry veterans, but we’re hungry for more. We want to create amazing virtual worlds, filled to the brim with powerful emotions and unique experiences. Most of all, we want to share our boundless passion for video games. We know what players love, because we’re players ourselves.
We’re currently working on our own AAA IP, story-driven RPG saga for PCs and next-gen consoles. We’re humbled by the interest and will share more as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience – it’ll be worth it!”
It should be noted that despite the investment of NetEase Games, Rebel Wolves still have complete creative control of their current game. It will be interesting to see how a new ambitious RPG will turn out to be from industry veterans who already have helped build awesome games.
