How to Fix Helldivers 2 Crashing Issue on PC?
Crashes in Helldiver 2 often originate from incorrect technical settings and configurations. A common cause is the enabled XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles), a feature that overclocks RAM beyond motherboard specifications, potentially leading to instability in demanding games.
Additionally, the cross-play feature, while enhancing multiplayer interaction across different platforms, can sometimes introduce compatibility challenges. Corrupted game files can disrupt the game’s normal function, creating unexpected shutdowns, and outdated GPU drivers may struggle to handle updated game graphics efficiently.
1. Disable XMP (if applicable)
Unstable memory performance is one of the main reasons for this issue. Enabling or disabling XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles) adjusts memory settings such as frequency, timing, and voltage. Often, enabling XMP is the root cause of the crashing issue. To fix this, we will disable XMP (if enabled).
- Completely turn off your computer and then turn it back on.
- Now, as soon as you see the manufacturer’s logo on your motherboard, start pressing the key that will take you to the motherboard BIOS settings. Common keys that access BIOS settings are the Delete key, F2, and F12.
- Once you have accessed the BIOS settings, navigate to Advanced Settings or Advanced Memory Settings.
- Here, you will see the XMP option. Set it to Disabled. If it is already enabled, try re-enabling it to see if the crashing issue is resolved.
2. Lower Your Graphics Settings
Another common cause of crashes is incompatible graphics settings. If you are using high graphics settings that your GPU or system cannot handle, this can lead to crashes. By reducing the graphics settings, you ensure that you are not overloading the GPU.
- Open the Menu and navigate to Options > Graphics.
- Here, change all the settings to Low.
- Once done, play the game for some time to see if this resolves the crashing issue.
3. Lock Your FPS to 60
Capping the FPS to 60 will reduce the load on the GPU and CPU. This can prevent crashes and stabilize the overall performance of the game by reducing sudden spikes. If the issue persists, it is strongly recommended to cap the FPS to 60.
- To cap the FPS, go to Menu > Options and then Display.
- Scroll down slightly and turn on the Framerate Limit.
- Then, ensure it is set to 60.
- Once done, test the game to see if it persists in crashing.
4. Disable Crossplay
Crossplay allows players on different platforms, such as PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, to play together. While it expands the pool of available players, it can sometimes cause games to crash. In this step, we will disable the crossplay feature to determine whether it is causing the issue.
- Head over to the game’s menu and then go to Options.
- Turn off the Crossplay option.
- Once done, verify if this resolves the problem.
5. Launch the Game with DX11
One of the common reasons for Helldiver 2 crashes is running the game with the latest DirectX version. Surprisingly, launching Helldiver 2 with DirectX12 often causes crashes. In this method, you will try launching the game with an older DirectX version.
- Open Steam and navigate to Library.
- Then, right-click on Helldiver 2 and open its Properties.
- Under the launch options, type the command “-d3d11“.
- Once done, launch the game and make sure the Screen Space Illumination is turned off and the Reflection Quality is set to Medium.
