Pixel Fold 2 Leaks in Unofficial Renders Showing Google’s Fresh Take on Foldables
The Pixel Fold 2 has just been leaked in unofficial renders, courtesy of OnLeaks, revealing some intricate yet significant changes. These leaks provide us with a clear idea of what to expect from Google’s next foldable smartphone, especially considering how the original Pixel Fold wasn’t much of a commercial success.
Google Scraps Off the Horizontal Camera Visor, Replaces it With a Rectangular Bump
The phone, shown in the Charcoal colorway, appears to come with Google’s rather fresh take on foldables. Right off the bat, you notice that the camera bar is now gone, replaced with a rectangular bump, splitting the camera system into two parts. On the bump itself, we see that the Pixel Fold 2 will have a three-camera system, with the microphone and flash on the right of these lenses.
One of the major changes we notice is that the aspect ratio is now significantly wider, much like we’re used to seeing on the OnePlus Open. This would eventually fare well for Google since the new dimensions will actually use the same aspect ratio as tablets. So, there would likely be fewer chances that you’d often see an improperly optimized app.
One of the Thinnest Foldables…
The cover display for the Pixel Fold 2 measures about 6.4″ (Pixel Fold came in at 5.8″). When folded, it measures 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.54mm, which is considerably thin if you compare it to other foldables. The device (closed/folded) comes in at 10.54mm. For comparison, the OnePlus Open comes at 11.7mm, and the standard Pixel 8 Pro, a non-foldable device, comes at 8.8mm.
On the inner part, the phone has a 7.9″ display, up from 7.6″ last year, measuring 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.27mm. However, the even more interesting and, frankly, important bit is that the large, ugly horizontal notch is gone on the top and bottom. Instead, we now see a decent-looking device with an in-display camera on the top right-hand side, similar to the Samsung Z Fold 5.
The source did not provide any details on the device’s weight, which will play an important role in the overall user experience. Not only that, but the phone will hopefully break away from the “underpowered Pixel” badge slapped on all Google smartphones. This is because rumors point to the idea that the Fold 2 will launch with the Tensor G4, which is why it may launch with the Pixel 9 series later this year. However, the Tensor G4 will probably not be the best smartphone SoC this year.
This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
