HONOR & OnePlus Join the Foldable Phone Race as Demand Grows

The demand for foldable phones has been steadily increasing since 2019, and it seems like this trend is only going to continue.

Up until now, Samsung has been the market leader in foldable phones. However, they are no longer alone, as other tech giants are also jumping on the foldable bandwagon, hinting at the possibility that foldable phones might become the next big thing in the mobile industry.

HONOR is recently gearing up for its global launch, and according to HONOR MEA President, Daniel Wang, we may see another flip phone from the company next year. This goes to show how companies are actually actively investing in the foldable form factor.

Another prominent player entering the foldable scene is OnePlus. The company has unveiled the name of its upcoming foldable device, the OnePlus OPEN. Now, there isn’t a lot of info on what it’ll be packing inside, but the general idea is that it’ll come pre-equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Also, according to the rumors, it’ll launch in over a month, on August 29th.

As the idea of foldable phones gains widespread acceptance with time, they have been intensely scrutinized by both critics and users. The increasing demand for foldable devices has opened up opportunities for new entrants in the market, but it has also made it highly competitive and saturated.

Due to this, other new companies in the scene, like Google will really have to step up their game in order to make a name for themselves in this new market. In addition to this, despite their appeal, foldable phones have faced challenges along their journey to becoming mainstream.

In the early days, issues like durability, crease lines on the flexible screens, and high price points posed barriers to wider adoption. But now, companies like Samsung plan on offering budget options for this form factor to counter the competition.

All of this is only possible because of the acceptance of this form factor, and increasing demand, meaning more supply, and less costs of manufacturing. This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
