Sony’s Xperia Pro-I is finally getting a successor after two years, and so, there are rumors floating that suggest that the new phone will have an upgraded camera setup compared to its predecessor. We know that Xperia Pro-I was the first phone that bought the 1-inch sensor to the global markets. So, what does Sony have in its bag which could potentially top that?
According to a Japanese source, the upcoming Xperia Pro will feature three Exmor-T stacked sensors, with the main wide-angle camera sensor retaining its 1-inch size. The Exmor-T so far has been satisfactory as far as performance is concerned, but with the rise of computational photography, does Sony step away from its “raw imaging” style this time around?
Well, they would HAVE to. See, while the Pro-I was the first global phone to house a 1-inch sensor, its hype was short lived thanks to lack of image processing in general. Most consumers don’t want a fancy camera that seems cool on paper, they want phones that deliver with minimal effort. Not everyone has the time or knowledge to adjust their camera settings before taking every shot.
While the leaked information does not provide any specific parameters for the new sensors, another source from Weibo claims that all three cameras will use new generation sensors. The Xperia Pro’s front-facing camera, however, will not be equipped with an Exmor-T sensor.
It remains to be seen whether the new sensors will be used for all future Xperia flagships or if they will only be exclusive to the Xperia Pro-II. Previous Xperia models have used Exmor RS sensors, including ultra-wide-angle and telephoto cameras equipped with Samsung sensors.
It is still unclear when the Xperia Pro-II will be released, and it’s possible that it may not arrive until early 2024. The Xperia 1 V is currently Sony’s flagship model, but the Xperia Pro-II could potentially steal the spotlight with its upgraded camera setup.
For now, we will have to wait for further information to see how the new camera setup will perform in real-world scenarios. Nonetheless, with the Xperia Pro-II rumored to have such impressive camera specifications, it’s definitely something to look forward to.
This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
