How to Move a Full-Screen Game to a Second Monitor

If you are looking to play a game on a secondary screen in full-screen mode, you can move the game to a second monitor using a keyboard shortcut. However, if you find that the keyboard shortcuts are not working, you can use some of the alternative methods we have listed below to resolve this issue.

This occurs because most games launch in exclusive mode, restricting movement across monitors. The primary cause of this issue is how the game interacts with the display, especially when multiple monitors are involved. Fortunately, you can use a couple of methods to move the game across your screens.

1. Use a Keyboard Shortcut

The easiest way to move the game to a second screen is to use the keyboard shortcut, which is

  • Shift + Windows + Left/Right Arrow

keys. If you want to move the game to the right screen, just press the right arrow while holding the Shift + Windows keys. In this way, you can easily move the game across the screens without needing to use other alternative methods. In case this does not work, you can try the alternative solutions listed below.

2. Set the Second Monitor as the Primary Monitor

Setting the second monitor as primary will allow the game to launch in exclusive mode on the primary monitor. So if you want the game on your right screen, simply set your right screen as the primary monitor. Conversely, if you prefer the game on your left screen, set the left screen as the primary monitor. To do so, follow these steps.

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select Display Settings from the menu.
  2. Here, you will see the connected monitors displayed as 1 and 2 or more.
  3. Simply select the monitor you want to make primary. Then, click Mark this my main display.

  4. Once done, launch the game and it should move to the second monitor.

3. Switch to Borderless Window Mode

Even though the above two solutions should be sufficient to move the game to the second monitor, there is also an alternative way to move the game to a secondary monitor, which is to change the in-game display mode to Windowed, then drag the game to the second monitor via your mouse.

  1. Open your game’s settings and navigate to Display Settings.
  2. Here, change the Display Mode to Windowed or Borderless Windowed.
  3. Once done, now drag the game to the second monitor and you should be good to go.
