Xiaomi Releases First Product Experience Video for Mi Mix Fold 3
The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3 is set to release later this week on August 14th, and the company has been marketing its features heavily in the lead-up to the launch. Most of the design has also been confirmed, and it looks like the design will surely be comparable to the foldable industry leaders.
Today, the company has also uploaded a first product experience video for the phone, giving us our first look at the foldable. In the video, CEO Lei showcased the highly marketed hover photo function, which allows you to take photos without holding the phone. To me, this seems gimmicky, not because it isn’t useful, but because every foldable has it, and for some reason, Xiaomi’s marketing is mainly based on it.
You can take a look at this video, on Weibo here. However, if you’ve still not seen the initial design of the phone, I’d recommend watching the video down below.
Xiaomi has confirmed that the hinge structure they’ll be using in this device will be made of carbon steel, and the company claims that it is tested to withstand up to 500,000 folds without any issues. It also has the option to support hover mode in any angle between 45° and 135°. This is also the first time we’ll see this particular ‘dragon-bone hinge‘ design in any foldable smartphone.
The pictures also showcase a Leica branded quad-camera setup, with dual telephoto lens, the design of which is somewhat similar to the Xiaomi 13 series. This dual telephoto is essentially a 5x periscope telephoto camera, coupled with a 3.2x portrait lens.
The camera system also includes a wide angle main camera with what Xiaomi calls the “Leica Summicron,” a high-transparency glass lens. In terms of battery life, Xiaomi tested the Fold 3 where, over an 11-hour heavy test, it had 5% battery remaining.
The protruding back camera housing reminds me of the legendary Xiaomi 11 Utra’s design, but to a lot of people, that aspect of the phone was it’s one major downside. You can see how it looks on the Fold 3 in real-life via this snippet from the first product experience video.
We’ll report to you on 14th, when Xiaomi unveils the Fold 3, alongside the rumored K60 Ultra and Xiaomi Pad 6 Max. This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
