The highly anticipated TV series based on the beloved The Last of Us franchise apparently has a release date now. HBO Max’s users quickly spotted the upcoming series’s premiere page when it unintentionally appeared on the platform.

However, VGC verified the authenticity of the news and corroborated the rumors that The Last of Us TV series will be released on 15th January 2023. Although it was expected that we would see the series in 2023 after it was officially announced on 26th September 2022 with a teaser trailer, the series coming out this early was totally unexpected.

This unintentional mistake caught the fans by surprise, and the excitement for the series has just been elevated with this new information. However, VGC also confirmed that this sudden appearance of the premiere page on the website was a mistake and an official reveal is likely to happen later this week. The series’ first trailer was released on 26th September 2022 on the occasion of The Last of Us day celebrations.

While there is not much revealed about the story that the show is going to follow (which is a good thing), it is expected that the show might cover the events of The Last of Us 1, but other than a basic synopsis, nothing solid has been revealed:

The story takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

The cast of the show is also very talented; Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie will take the spotlight, and Craig Mazin, better known for his work in the critically acclaimed mini tv series; Chernobyl, along with Neil Druckmann, Co-president at Naughty Dog will be handing the matters behind the scenes.

Undoubtedly the hype for the upcoming tv series is insane, and fans are impatiently waiting to experience their favorite game as a tv show to rebuild that personal connection with the protagonist once again.
