Huawei P70 Sticks to Curved Displays, Might Reuse Last Year’s Kirin 9000 Series SoC
As Huawei looks to regain lost ground in the smartphone space, the world will surely dissect its next flagship launches to see where the it stands. The company is currently preparing for the release of its P70 series, which, if previous trends are to go by, will be launched in the first quarter of this year.
Huawei Will Not Outsource Any SoCs for Its Flagship Launches this Year as it Moves to 5nm Production
Last year’s Huawei P60 featured a 4G Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. This year, however, especially after Kirin’s unexpected comeback, it’ll be interesting to see how Huawei will capitalize on this development. After all, recent reports indicate that SMIC, Kirin’s SoC manufacturer, might be constructing a 5nm facility in Shanghai to produce 5nm Kirin SoCs as early as this year.

If Huawei proceeds with 5nm production, it will likely utilize DUV lithography. However, questions remain regarding mass production viability and meeting demand with this approach. Aside from that, the Huawei P70’s initial leaked details point to a curved display, with a resolution of 1.5K (150% pixels of a standard 1080p display). It’ll also come with satellite connectivity after Huawei Mate 60 Pro became the world’s first satellite-calling phone last year.
The Huawei P70 will be largely similar to its predecessor. It will use the same curved display, even though almost all of the leading manufacturers have transitioned to flatter screens. It will come with minimal bezels, again thanks to the curved angle that creates the illusion of almost non-existent bezels. Plus, it may also use the same layout on the back with one big lens and two small ones.
Insider Digital Chat Station confirms that, unlike last year, the P70 series will sport an in-house Kirin 9xxx SoC, and the two phones (both with different chip frequencies) in the series will come in sizes of 6.58″ and 6.8″. He also claims the phone will come with a 50MP Omnivision OV50H lens, as found on Xiaomi 14.
This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
