How to Fix ‘com.apple.mobilephone error 1035’ on iPhone

When the “com.apple.mobilephone error 1035” appears on an iPhone, it usually stops users from setting up voicemail greetings because of network or connection issues. It often happens due to Wi-Fi or cellular network problems or if voicemail isn’t set up right with the carrier.

Error Message

Incorrect network settings or connection glitches can also cause this error.

In this article, we will discuss solutions to fix this error.

1. Turn On Airplane Mode

This issue can be caused due to Wi-Fi and cellular data conflicts. Turning on Airplane Mode disconnects both, resetting your phone’s network connections. When you turn Airplane Mode off, your iPhone reconnects to a fresh network state.

  1. Swipe down the notification bar on your phone.
  2. Tap Airplane Mode. Wait for 30 seconds and turn it OFF using the same method.

Toggle Airplane Mode on and then off as shown.

2. Switch from Wi-Fi to Cellular Data

Switching from Wi-Fi to cellular data can resolve issues preventing Visual Voicemail from connecting properly. Public or unstable Wi-Fi networks can block certain functions or interfere with voicemail. Using cellular data connects the phone directly through the mobile carrier, offering a more stable and open connection.

  1. Turn off Wi-Fi if it is on.
  2. Go to Settings and select the Cellular option.
  3. Tap the toggle for Cellular Data.
    Turning on Cellular Data
  4. Try using your voicemail to see if the problem persists.

3. Set Up Your Visual Voicemail

If Visual Voicemail is set up correctly, it reconnects your iPhone with the carrier’s voicemail service, making sure everything works well. If you skip this step, your device might not communicate properly with the carrier, causing problems with voicemail greetings and messages. Setting it up ensures the voicemail system works correctly with your device, preventing disruptions.

  1. Turn off your WiFi if it is on.
  2. Tap the phone icon on your iPhone home screen.
  3. Press and hold 1 on your keypad to access voicemail settings.
  4. Enter your current voicemail password and set up your voicemail.
    Using the phone keypad
  5. Finish the setup and restart your phone.
  6. Check your voicemail to see if the error still exists.

4. Reset Network Settings

If none of the solutions work, resetting your network settings can fix deeper connection issues. This clears any wrong or damaged settings and returns them to factory defaults. It fixes network problems without deleting your personal data, and ensures your iPhone reconnects to your carrier and Wi-Fi with fresh settings.

  1. Go to Settings and select General.
  2. Scroll down and tap Reset.
  3. Choose Reset Network Settings and confirm with your pin code.
    Resetting the network settings
  4. Your phone will reboot. Then, try updating or setting up the voicemail greeting.

I recently switched carriers from ATT to Consumer Cellular. Had to setup new voicemail and the error occurred. Tried #1 but it did not work. Method #2 worked.

Hi. Just switched from Android to Iphone. I don’t get alerts that I have missed calls unless I go into “recents” and see them there in red. I cannot set up or get voicemails with the voicemail symbol but I can if I press and hold 1 and go in that way. I would like to get alerts of voicemails and simply press the icon to retrieve. Is there a way other than the step above as I have tried them all.

I tried two methods… one didn’t work (airplane mode) and one worked like a charm (turning off wifi and just using cellular). Thanks for helping me fix this! 😉

Hello, thank you for all this. NONE worked for me. I’m worried that people might be leaving messages and I’m not getting them, because even though you can call and get the default greeting, I’ve never had a message left.

I bought this phone in the UK and switched to ATT in the US with new sim. Could that be at play? If so, do you have any suggestions? It is an iphone SE version iOS 14.0

It could be an issue with IMEI since you had the phone sim switched over in the US. I suggest you contact Apple Tech support and explain them the issue you are having right now they will help you resolve this issue. If they won’t be able to fix this issue you might have to contact AT&T and explain the whole situation to them.

I think it was better when no one could leave a message (Oct 3rd to today) but now they think they are and I am not getting any notification or ability to hear them. I hope you can help. My new job has my office number forwarded to my phone since we are working remotely. I have to know when folks leave a message, especially if they are now able to leave one but I have no idea about it. Please help!!!

I have tried all three of the steps provided and the only reason I did not attempt Step 3, is that my iphone actually states that Vsiual Voicemail is currently unavailable. I don’t know what to do now!!

I’ve been looking everywhere and keep seeing the same solutions to try, but nothing has worked. My voicemail worked fine (and has for years). I just kind of realized that I wasn’t getting voicemails any longer. I can’t save a greeting, says my VM has not been set up (if I press/hold 1), but I can still access my saved VMs on my phone. Thoughts?

I’ve tried all these methods and so far I have not had any luck. Now when I press one to get into my voicemail, it says someone has already use that password, which of course was me. I don’t know what to do now. Does anybody have any good advice?

    Hi there,
Thank you for your help.Following your suggestions I did try switching off wifi but that alone didn’t work. I then turned the phone off and on and also temporarily turned off my mobile network. When I switched the network access back on and recorded yet another new message, this time it allowed me to save it. For reference I have a 1st gen iPhone SE and am in the uk. Thanks again 🙂
