Pixel Fold to Launch with a Hefty $1,799 Price in May 2023
A massive leak, this time concerning Google‘s plans for the foldable market, was unexpectedly released by the YouTube channel Front Page Tech. We’re calling it the Pixel Fold for the time being, as the official name has not yet been disclosed.
The channel provided us an early peek at what one of the leading Android smartphone manufacturers’ upcoming Pixel Fold may look like. All of the 3-D renders you see here were created using real photographs and other undisclosed sources, as reported by FPT.
Specifications
The Pixel Fold is reportedly being referred to as “Project Passport” by Front Page Tech’s sources. Instead of an internal under-display camera like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, it will be marketed as a premium device with a correspondingly high price tag. Many people would be grateful to Google for taking this action, and the company too would prefer to wait until the technology is mature enough before implementing it in order to provide the best possible picture quality from the front camera. For this time, however, Google has decided to go with the bezels to house the camera.
The Pixel Fold includes not one but two cameras—one in the aforementioned bezels on the top right, and another on the screen as a punch hole. Each one of these is 9.5MP. As for the back, you instantly notice some similarities in the camera bump with the Pixel 7 lineup. It has the same pill-shaped cutout alongside the microphone and flash, however, unlike the smartphone, instead of blending into the sides, the Fold has rounded edges. The entire back is composed of glass, and a big G representing Google is located on the center.
The USB-C connector is on the right side of the bottom edge, and there are five tiny holes on the top (alonside a the mmWave antenna, yeahh 5G!) and on the bottom. The device is bulky because of the metal frames, and the fingerprint sensor has been built into the side lock button, which also houses the volume rocker.
This phone is available in two different colors, Chalk and Obsidian, and is entirely constructed out of metal and glass.
Pricing & Release Date
The Google Pixel Fold, expected to be released in May of 2023, is said to have a price tag of $1,799. In about the same time, Google might unveil its Pixel Tablet. tehre is a high chance we could see the announcement of both devices at the Google I/O 2023.
