Google Phone Now Application available to Android devices in Select Countries
In the world of telemarketing, hardly anyone is safe from spam calls. Most people end up picking the calls, which often lead to scams. During the Pixel 4 reveal, Google introduced the Google Phone application that could filter out these scam calls, among many other things. The application has been exclusive for the Pixel and Android One devices up till now. Google brought the application to some non-pixel devices last month. In today’s release, Google announced that the application would soon be available to other Android devices in selected countries. These include the US, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and India.
The Google phone application has a lot of important features, mainly the ability to report whether the call is from a verified business, the feature that Google calls Verified Calls. Users can also allow Google Assistant to answer the call as well as record the message too. Google explained that the Verified Calls feature has been in testing for a few months now. For the feature to work, businesses must pass Google’s verification test and must send the relevant information to Google’s Verified Calls server. On the other end, users would receive the name and opening hours of the business. Google explained, “When the business calls you, your device compares the incoming call information with the information Google received from the business.”
The Google Phone application has many positive use cases for users as well as businesses. The fact that Google is now making it available to non-pixel devices is encouraging. Lastly, Google assured that other countries and devices would receive the feature soon.
