Fix: Samsung TV Volume Control not Working

Pressing the volume buttons on your Samsung TV remote but seeing no response or erratic changes is a common issue that can occur suddenly. This issue typically means the TV is not properly receiving commands from the remote, often due to software glitches in the sound system or the TV’s settings.

The most common cause is a bug in the “Autorun Smart Hub” or similar smart features, which can interfere with volume control. Other factors might include a bad remote, outdated firmware, or connection issues, especially if external devices are involved.

In this article, we will discuss different ways to solve this error.

1. Power-cycle the Television

Before trying anything else, power cycle your Samsung TV. Hold the power button for a few seconds to reset the TV and clear software glitches affecting volume control. This quick method can fix temporary issues.

  1. Turn the TV on for 5 minutes.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall and wait for 10 minutes.
Unplugging the socket directly from the wall

  3. Turn the TV back on and check if the issue is resolved.

2. Change the Remote’s Batteries

Weak or dead batteries in your remote can cause inconsistent signals or no response when controlling the TV’s volume. Replacing with new batteries often fixes the problem.

3. Re-Sync the Remote and the TV

When the TV remote seems unresponsive, re-syncing it with your Samsung TV restores the connection. This can fix glitches or desynchronization often caused by updates or long use. Re-pairing ensures the TV and remote work together correctly.

  1. Turn on the TV.

All of these setting control suggestions will not help you. The answer to your problem is the control itself. If you have the basic controller with two silver buttons next to each other, one for the channel, one for sound. Don’t push down to increase the volume push in a horizontal movement with your finger at the base of the silver button.

I have a samsung tv and the volume just stopped working. The remote moves it up/down. I unplugged the tv and when I started it back up, it makes the startup noise. I have a Roku connected and when I switch channels it makes noise but absolutely no volume when watching tv shows… any. I have tried several channels.

maybe it is a hardware issue? Have you tried getting it in for service or a factory reset?

The solution is to use a 12 gauge on the tv and read more books.

My Samsung tv volume and menu buttons are not working. I have tried replacing the batteries, holding the “back” and “pause” buttons for 10 seconds and turning the tv off. The power button works and the red light flashes when I press buttons but nothing happens.

This can also be due to a hardware issue with the TV itself, try power cycling the television completely. Make sure to remove any functioning electronic devices from the TV’s vicinity and check again. If that doesn’t work, I’m afraid you might have to have your remote or TV checked.

I have Samsung TV and Samsung sound bar. The bar works fine and I can control volume with third party remote. Problem: Once the bar was connected it no longer displays volume on TV. The bar has a display but it’s very tiny, can’s see it from viewing distance. Any way to restore display to TV? TY

Unfortunately, the display volume on TV represents the volume of speakers built-in to your TV so I don’t think that there is any way to get the display volume on TV for your Soundbar.

Had problem with sticking volume. Would only move a couple numbers. Tried all the remedies on these sites and none corrected the problem. After spending most of the morning with Samsung trying to get it corrected, they advised of a software problem with my unit. They have a software download that they sent me and after walking me thru it the problem has been solved. Mine was a 55 inch model about 3 years old.
