Tip
Make sure that your Wi-Fi is connected. Sometimes it’s just that we forget to even turn on the Wi-Fi. So, make sure that the Wi-Fi is turned on. You should be able to see the Wi-Fi icon on the top of your screen. If you can’t see it then do the following
- Swipe your screen up from the bottom
- Click on the small Wi-Fi icon
- Wait a few seconds until it connects
Method 1: Restart Router or Modem
Restarting your Router or Modem is a good way to start troubleshooting your no connectivity problems. Sometimes restarting your router fixes the Wi-Fi issue. This should be done especially if there are other people with you who can’t connect to the Wi-Fi.
Take out the power cord of the Router and put it back in. Make sure to turn on the Router if it doesn’t turn on automatically. There should be a power button somewhere on the router.
Once the router is restarted, try connecting the Wi-Fi again from your iPhone and see if it works. If it doesn’t work then move to the next method.
Method 2: Force Restart iPhone
Forcing your iPhone to restart is the second thing on your troubleshooting list. Sometimes there is a problem with the device and restarting fixes the issue. If following the method 1 didn’t fix the issue then you should try restarting the iPhone as well.
Hold and press both the Home and Wake/Sleep button together until you see the Apple logo at the black screen. This will force restart your iPhone.
Once the iPhone is restarted, try to connect it to Wi-Fi to check whether the issue is solved or not.
Method 3: Resetting Network Settings
The Network Settings on your iPhone contains a lot of information about your network. Sometimes this information needs to be reset in order for it to work properly. This is mainly because the network settings might get corrupt for some reason. So, it is a good way to refresh your network settings.
If the problem is because of the network settings then following the steps given below should solve your problem.
Note: Following the steps given below will reset some of your settings and you might need to enter some of the information related to your network again.
- Tap Settings to open the Settings app from the iPhone
- Tap General
- Swipe towards the bottom of the screen and select Reset
- Select Reset Network Settings
- Confirm any additional prompts
This should reset your network settings. Once done, connect your Wi-Fi and see if the problem is there or not. You might have to enter the previously saved information.
Method 4: Update the iOS
Apple releases Operating System updates pretty regularly. This is a good thing because it keeps your phone up to date with the latest features and security fixes. But, if there is pending iOS update then that might cause some compatibility issues. The problem of not connecting to Wi-Fi might be caused by this. So, you should check for the iOS updates and make sure that your iPhone is up to date.
- Tap Settings to open the Settings app from the iPhone
- Tap General
- Tap Software Update
Now, the iPhone will check for any updates that might be pending for your device. If the system finds any updates then they will be shown on the screen. If you see a pending update then click on the Download and Install.
Note: Don’t forget to connect your device to a power outlet to make sure it stays charged because OS updates take some time.
Method 5: Restore iPhone to Factory Settings
If nothing else worked then it is time for extreme measures. Restoring your iPhone to Factory Settings will bring the device back to it’s out of the box conditions.
Note: Factory Reset will delete everything from the iPhone so don’t forget to make a backup of your important things.
Since Factory Reset brings your device back to how it was when unboxed, the problem should be solved especially if it was caused by improper settings or configurations.
- Tap Settings to open the Settings app from the iPhone
- Tap General
- Tap Reset
- Select Erase All Content and Settings
- Confirm any additional prompts and wait for the reset to complete
Once done, you will be able to set up your device as a new iPhone or using the back up. You can choose whatever you want but settings up as a new iPhone should be your choice. This will help you see whether the problem was in your old files or the device. If setting the device as a new iPhone solves the problem but restoring with old back up brings back the problem then that means there was a problem in your old files and settings.
Method 6: Contact Apple
If nothing is working then it is time to contact the Apple. This is because you have done everything you can at this point. If the problem is still there then it’s highly likely that it is a hardware problem which should be handled by the Apple. You can get in touch with their customer support and explain what the problem is. They should be able to help you with this problem.
