Kevin, I deleted the unwanted backgrounds as you suggest, and yet they still appear as options when I am in a Teams meeting…and so I cannot upload ones I would prefer to use. Any suggestions? I restarted my Mac but that didn’t solve the problem.

This unfortunately didn’t work for my when trying to delete the default Teams backgrounds. They are gone from the TeamsBackgrounds folder but they still appear in Teams after restarting Teams

Try to delete them from the “Upload” folder as well, follow these steps:-

      1. Press and hold the Windows key then press the R key to open the Run program.
      2. Once the run is opened, type the following command and press enter:-

      %appdata%MicrosoftTeamsBackgroundsUploads

      3. Now check the folder that opened and delete the Unwanted Backgrounds.

Let me know how it goes so that we can assist you further.

None of the Teams backgrounds are in that folder, only the ones I uploaded myself. I rechecked the Backgrounds folder and the %appdata%MicrosoftTeamsBackgrounds folders is empty.

You are right, after some research we found out that Microsoft has integrated those backgrounds to come bundled within the program. Now you can’t remove the default backgrounds.
