How to Fix the Arc Browser Not Launching Issue on Windows?

Arc Browser might crash right away or not open at all on Windows. Sometimes, you may see a quick “Write-protected media” message before it closes. This problem is related to error code 0xC000001D, which usually means the computer tried to run an invalid instruction because of the swiftCore.dll file.

The most common cause is a missing or damaged Swift runtime, often after a Windows update or system change. Sometimes, your antivirus software or a damaged user profile can also cause this problem.

Before we move on to the troubleshooting steps, it’s a good idea to restart your computer. Restarting will refresh all services and clear out any temporary glitches in the system’s memory that might be stopping Arc from launching.

1. Reset or Repair Arc

This method worked for me and is usually a great starting point. Resetting Arc clears its application data, including saved login info and recently used data. Repairing the Arc browser will try to fix any damaged files that may be causing the issue.

  1. Open the Start Menu and type “Arc.”
  2. Right-click on Arc Application and choose App Settings.
  3. Scroll down and click Repair.
  4. After the repair is complete, try launching Arc again. If it still doesn’t open, click Reset. This should resolve the issue.

2. Close Arc from the Task Manager

Sometimes, multiple instances of Arc may be running in the background, which can stop it from launching properly. Closing all Arc processes from the Task Manager usually solves this problem.

  1. Right-click your Taskbar and select Task Manager.
  2. In Task Manager, right-click each Arc process and select End task.
  3. After you’ve ended every Arc process, try launching the browser again to see if it works.

3. Run Arc as an Administrator

Running Arc as an administrator gives it all the permissions it needs to work properly. Sometimes, programs can’t start because they don’t have permission to access certain files they need.

  1. Right-click the Arc app and choose Run as administrator.
  2. If Arc opens, you may want to set it to always run as an administrator.
  3. To do this, right-click Arc Browser again and select Properties.

4. Reinstall Arc Browser

If none of the previous solutions work, reinstalling Arc is a good next step. This will replace any damaged files that could be causing the browser not to launch.

  1. Open the Start Menu, search for Arc, and right-click it.
  2. Select Uninstall, and confirm by clicking Uninstall again.
  3. Once Arc is uninstalled, download and install the latest version from the official Arc website.
  4. After installation, check if you can now launch Arc successfully.

If reinstalling doesn’t fix the problem and Arc still refuses to launch, you should report the issue to Arc browser support. Their team can take a closer look and provide more detailed help for your specific situation.
