Fix Apex Legends ‘Error Code 23’ on Windows 10
A few players have reported that they encounter the Apex error code 23 after trying to launch the game. This error code appears immediately after the game is launched and it’s accompanied by the error message ‘Game Client encountered an application error’. This problem is typically encountered on Windows 10.
After examining the issue in-depth, it seems like there are a few causes that can trigger this error to occur. Here is a shortlist of possible culprits of this problem:
- Outdated GPU driver – It was reported by a few users that the GPU driver could be outdated, which makes it impossible to run the game on your PC. You can solve this problem by searching automatically for newer drivers, or by using the proprietary software (GeForce Experience and Adrenalin) to update the GPU drivers to the latest version.
- Conflicting 3rd party program – Some players have said that the game could be affected by some 3rd party programs, which cause the Apex error. Fortunately, the easiest way to find all the programs that are interfering with the game is to start your computer into clean boot mode. This will allow you to identify and eliminate the culprit.
- Temporary files are affecting the game’s stability – Certain programs can create temp files that might pile on top of each other and affect the stability of the game. The files can accumulate over time and interfere with the game, causing the error to appear due to insufficient available memory. The easiest way to clear temp files is to use a specific tool, like CCleaner
- Missing / Corrupted Visual C++ 2015 Redist. pack – Oftentimes, this issue is related to an underlying issue with a Visual C++ dependency needed for the game to run. Several users have managed to fix the issue either by installing or repairing the Visual C++ 2015 package.
Now that you are aware of the possible scenarios that cause this error, here’s a list of fixes that will help you solve the Apex error code 23.

If you know you haven’t updated your GPU drive in a while, follow the following instructions to see how to replace the current driver with the latest version:
- Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box. Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ inside the box and press Enter to open the Device Manager.
- After the Device Manager menu appears on your screen, scroll through the list until you find Display Adapters, then expand the drop-down menu.
- When the menu is extended, right-click the GPU driver you want to update and click on Update driver.
Note: If you are using a laptop, you probably see both the dedicated and the integrated GPU, but keep in mind that you only need to update the dedicated GPU.
- After that, click on Search Automatically for updated driver software. When the initial scan is done, follow the instructions given on the screen to complete the installation of the latest GPU driver that’s compatible with your graphic card.
- If a newer version was found and installed, restart your PC, and after it boots back, you can launch the game to see if the error still occurs.
Note: If the Device Manager couldn’t find a new version for your GPU, you can use the proprietary software developed by your graphics card manufacturer to update the GPU driver. Here’s a shortlist of tools that you can use to install the missing drivers:
