AMD RX 9070 Series Benchmarks Leaked: 42% Faster Than 7900 GRE

Benchmark data is based on leaks and may not reflect final performance.

Ahead of AMD’s RX 9070-series launch on February 28, 2025 (via YouTube), official power ratings and benchmarks have surfaced. These provide insights into how the new card compares to its predecessors and Nvidia’s RTX 50-series.

Thanks to VideoCardz, we now see that the 9070 series delivers noticeable performance gains over the 7900 GRE and 6900 XT.

The 6900 XT, though more than a generation old, remains relevant due to its 16GB VRAM configuration.

The RX 9070 XT, expected to have a TDP of 304W, shows significant improvements. It achieves a 38% boost at 2560×1440 Ultra settings and a 42% increase at 3840×2160 Ultra settings across 30+ games. Compared to the 6900 XT at 3840×2160 Max, it offers a 51% performance jump.

The standard Radeon RX 9070, a more budget-friendly option, still outperforms the 7900 GRE. It sees a 20% boost at 2560×1440 Ultra and a 21% gain at 3840×2160 Ultra. Against the 6800 XT at 3840×2160 Max, it shows a 38% improvement.

These figures exclude comparisons with the RTX 5070Ti or RTX 5080, both expected to be key rivals. However, more detailed performance reviews may emerge before AMD’s official launch.

Speculation suggests AMD will not release a reference model for the RX 9070. Historically, AMD’s promotional materials have indicated that such versions wouldn’t be available, reinforcing this possibility.

The absence of a “Made By AMD” variant doesn’t mean MSRP-priced options won’t exist. AIB partners often offer more affordable versions compared to high-end, custom-cooled models. It’s worth watching AIB partners to assess price-to-performance against Nvidia’s latest GPUs.
