Dedicated gaming phones started with the release of the Razer Phone back in 2017. Though the device could not be as popular as Razer would have liked, it started a trend in the industry. It was the first smartphone to ship with a high refresh rate display. Many other companies including manufacturers started taking interest in the smartphone especially the gaming smartphone segment of the market.
Xiaomi has been producing its ‘Gaming grade’ device under the name Black Shark since 2018. These devices offer top of the line specifications, higher refresh rates, and a flashy design element. The Balck Shark 3 Pro released last year was praised for its huge High refresh OLED display, and its mappable hardware buttons. The device is still capable of handling even the most demanding titles, but it seems Xiaomi is already planning to launch its successor.
According to a report from GSMarena, Xiaomi Black Shark 4 (codenamed Kaiser) mysteriously appeared on Google Play Console with some key specifications. It is not the first time the device has made an appearance on the internet; it first appeared on Antutu Benchmark’s database. The curious detail about the latest listing is the processor. It shows Snapdragon 835 as the device’s SoC, which is clearly an error. Packing a four-year-old processor on the flagship gaming device does not seem right.
Lastly, the device will feature a FHD+ display with a 20:9 aspect ratio, and a high-refresh display (120Hz probably). It may be the first device to support Xiaomi’s latest 120W fast charging technology. According to the claims made by the company, it can charge a 4500mAh battery in less than 15 minutes.
