With the newest anniversary update from Windows many people have complained on having problems playing their music. It is expected for some errors to occur in the new versions of Windows updates.
This error might occur from software problem with the media player you’re using, or the media player that is being used is being corrupted by a malware or a virus. The specific player we’re discussing is the default one, Windows Media Player, and this issue has appeared for a lot of users after the update.
In this article, we have listed a couple of methods that have worked for most of the users having this issue. The first one should help you continue using Windows Media to play your files, and if it doesn’t work, you will have to go to the second one.
Method 1: Disable WMP DirectX acceleration
Disabling WMP DirectX video acceleration in the options of WMP might result in music starting to play without any issues. To do that follow the steps listed below.
- Open the Windows Media Player.
- Press the ALT key on your keyboard, choose Files -> Tools -> Options
- Go to the Performance tab, and uncheck Turn on DirectX Video Acceleration for WMV files.
- Click OK to close the window, and restart the player.
Method 2: Installing third party app (optional)
A conclusion of all the reports we have gotten for this error is that this error only occurs on Windows Media Player. If the previous method didn’t help you solve it, there is unfortunately no other option but to start using another music player, at least until Windows comes out with a fix for this issue.
