Windows 10 build 18956 brings “Always on Top mode” for Windows 10 Calculator App

Microsoft has pushed a new Insider Preview Build to the Fast Ring. Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18956 is a part of Windows 10 20H1 branch that is scheduled for a release in Spring 2020.

Similar to all the previous builds, this one brings a series of improvements, bug fixes and issues. Microsoft rolled out Calculator updates, Notification settings improvements, and a revamped network status page as a part of this release.

Network Status page improvements

Revamped active connections view

The Status page now displays all the all available connection interfaces. It will help you to see the connected devices. You can then further view and make changes to the properties according to your requirements.

Keep track of data usage

The Staus page will now inform you about the data that is used by the network. The integrated data usage information will be useful in situations when you are about to cross your limit. Furthermore, you can keep track of the data used by individual apps on the network.

Notification settings improvements

Microsoft is rolling out the notification settings improvements to all insiders enrolled in the Fast Ring. You can now directly access the notification settings from the Action Center. A new checkbox in the Notifications & Action Settings will help you to mute notifications. All new notifications now include a settings icon that can be used to adjust notification settings of a specific app.

New Cortana experience

Microsoft confirmed that the new Cortana experience is now available to 50% Insiders who are using the US English. You can restart your system to see the new changes.

Calculator app updates

This update brings some major changes for Windows 10 Calculator app. The rumoured Always on Top mode will now be available to Fast Ring Insiders. Now you can use the icon available next to the calculator mode name to activate the Always on Top mode.

Chinese IME Improvements

Microsoft has fixed various issue related to Traditional Chinese IME and rolled out some major improvements based on user feedback. The candidate numbers disappearing problem has been resolved now and the Shift+Number keys should work as expected.

Bug fixes

Windows 10 build 18956 brings a bunch of bug fixes. We have listed some major fixes below:

  1. This update addresses an issue with clearing search results in File Explorer.
  2. Some Insiders reported that the taskbar search crashes at the moment when they log-in to their accounts. Microsoft addressed the problem in this build.
  3. The recent Windows 10 update resolved an issue with explorer.exe that used to crash for some Insiders.
