WhatsApp Testing Self-Destructing Messages: Might Push To the Final Build This Time Around

Snapchat got much of its fame with the way users were able to send in their messages. These are called self-destructing messages, where the message, picture is deleted a bit after it is sent. For a while now, WhatsApp has been trying to introduce the idea in its messaging service. Something similar was introduced where users can delete their messages a bit after they have sent them. This is not the same though.

According to an article from PhoneArena, the site mentions the WhatsApp team testing the feature. It is true that it was tested before but was limited to a particular set of groups. Even then, not everyone could have tested it. Now, the report states that users on WhatsApp Beta would be able to test it, no limits attached.

Before, when the company tested it back in October, the feature was only available to group chats, that too, for certain users. According to WABetaInfo, the company is now bringing it to individual users as well. What this would mean is that once you send in a message, you’d have the option to attach a further string of command to it. This command is, as the context suggests, the self-destructing feature. Upon setting it accordingly, the message for self destructs after the set number of minutes or hours.

There is a chance that since it is still in beta, the feature may not make it to the final build, as was the case previously. Given that the company is pushing it more this time around, even for individuals, this might not be the case. If you’re on Android and signed up for WhatsApp’s beta program, do check it out. As quoted in the article, you can select the option from the settings menu. Messages can be set to delete after 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, and 1 year.
