WhatsApp Beta For Android Update Reveals More Details About The Dark Theme Functionality

Many popular applications have already adopted dark theme during the past few months. WhatsApp is also following the footsteps as the company started working on the dark mode back in March this year. Now it looks like you will soon be able to quickly switch between the dark and light themes as per your requirements.

WhatsApp beta for Android v2.19.282 has been released with a dedicated Theme Settings option. You can spot this option in the settings menu of the application. Once you tap on Theme Settings, it allows you to choose between the Dark, Light, and System default options.

If you choose the System Default option, the app will comply with the default system theme settings of your phone. Moreover, the light theme is the existing theme you can see in your WhatsApp application. WhatsApp is still working on the dark theme and it might not be available for some users. Moreover, the text color does not go along with the theme.

As soon as you activate the Dark theme, the app will adapt a dark blue color to reduce the strain on your eyes. WhatsApp still needs to fix theme minor design issues before pushing the feature to the stable version.

Disappearing Messages

We reported about the Disappearing Messages functionality that is currently under development. Previously the time intervals were limited to only 5 seconds and 1 hour. Now the beta version of the instant messaging application supports more time intervals. As you can see in the screenshot, users can choose between 5 seconds, 1 hour, 1 day, 7 days and 30 days.

As the name suggests, the functionality of this feature is very simple. For instance, if you choose 7 days, the message will disappear after the completion of the specified time period. This feature is intended for both private and group chats.

You might be interested to play around with the upcoming features. However, both of them are experimental features and currently available in the WhatsApp Beta for Android v2.19.282.

There are many other rumoured features that are potentially coming by the end of this year. Some of the most anticipated features are hide muted status, Contact ranking, WhatsApp calls using Google Assistant and more. The company is yet to disclose an ETA for the public release. We hope that these features will see the light of the day very soon.
