WhatsApp Quietly Removes ‘Vacation Mode’ On Android Devices

WhatsApp group chats are used to communicate with multiple people at the same time. However, you will probably agree with the fact that those group chats can be very annoying in some situations.

No one wants to read hundreds of WhatsApp messages especially when you are on a vacation. Previously there was no option that allowed users to take a break from WhatsApp group notifications.

Last year WhatsApp decided to address this issue and pushed a new feature in the beta release. The WhatsApp team was working on the “Vacation Mode” feature for months. The feature allowed WhatsApp users to mute dismissed or archived chats.

People liked the feature because of the fact that they got rid of unwanted notifications. Moreover, the new messages didn’t either appear in their inbox. The Vacation Mode worked for both individual and group conversations.

The functionality was available under the Settings > Notifications section as the “Ignore archived chats” button. However, it seems like WhatsApp has decided to abandon the feature. WABetaInfo spotted that the Vacation Mode is no longer available on Android devices.

It is yet not clear that if its a deliberate decision or the company is just experimenting with the feature. Many people didn’t like the change and think that the Vacation Mode was an important functionality. It’s because of the fact that archived chats will no longer remain archived whenever a new message is received.

It means that you will now see all your muted chats at the top of your feed. Fortunately, WhatsApp for iOS still has the “Ignore archived chats” feature. It seems to be an indication that WhatsApp might bring it back for Android users very soon.

What’s your take on this change? Do you think that the company should reintroduce the Vacation Mode? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
