Vivo X Fold+ Officially Released With New Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC

Just recently, Vivo released their second foldable phone this year, the Vivo X Fold+. Yes, the phone is a sequel to the original Vivo X Fold, which released earlier this year. Although a successor, think of the new Vivo X Fold+ as an iterative update. The new device has a similar design to the original Vivo X Fold, but now comes with a new chipset, a bigger battery and even an extra ultra-sonic fingerprint sensor among other things.

Vivo X Fold+ Specifications

The new Vivo X Fold+ now comes with the latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. This is only a marginal upgrade from the original X Fold which arrived with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.  The new X Fold+ also gets a slightly bigger battery, now with 4,730 mAh capacity. To top it off there’s now 80W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging.

One of the biggest problems with the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC was efficiency, and even throttling under heavy usage. The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC addresses these problems to a large extent and combined with the bigger battery on the X Fold+, the new foldable will likely last longer on a single charge.

As for the camera, the specs remain unchanged from the original Vivo X Fold. The new foldable comes with the same 50 MP (f/1.8) main camera, along with a 48 MP (f/1.8) ultrawide. There are also two telephoto lenses, one 8 MP (f/3.4) periscope lens with 5x optical zoom, and the other, a normal 12 MP (f/2.0) telephoto with 2x optical zoom. Although, sticking to the same setup is not a bad move, as it can go head-to-head with even the Galaxy Fold 4 in the camera department.

Coming to the display, the Vivo X Fold+ again shares similar specs with the original X Fold, featuring an 8.03-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED display (120hz-1hz) with HDR10+ support. The outer display is also an AMOLED, 120Hz screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels.

Pricing and Specifications

Vivo X Fold+ Pricing

The best thing about the new Vivo X Fold+ has to be the price, which is similar to its predecessor. The X Fold+ will be priced at CNY 10,000 ($1,400) for the 12/256GB model, and CNY 11,000 ($1500) for the 12/512GB model.

As for availability, the Vivo X Fold+ is up for preorders in China and will be officially on sale from the 29th of September. There’s no word on international availability yet from Vivo.
