Valve Brings a New Feature Rich Standalone Steam Chat App For Mobile Phones

Steam is one of the very few digital game storefront platforms with a big social hub. We have steam chat on both desktop and phones. Steam’s phone app works well with purchases and sorting, but the social elements are drab. The chat function on Steam’s mobile app is very clunky and it lacks accessibility. Valve is working to fix that as they have just announced a new Steam Chat mobile app which is now live on both Android and iOS.

Features

Friends List – See who’s in game or online at a glance. You’ll see your custom categories and favorites bar just like you can on your PC.
Rich Chat – Your chats get even better with higher fidelity links, videos, tweets, GIFs, Giphy, Steam emoticons, and more.
Invite Links – Add new friends on Steam with a link. Generate an invite link you can text or email.
Customizable Notifications – Mobile notifications mean you’ll never miss a message or game invite. You can customize your notifications per friend, group chat, and chat channel.
Group Chats – Get everyone on the same page. Groups make it easier to do things like stay in touch with your communities and organize game night with your best friends.
Steam Chat on the desktop was also overhauled this year and new features were introduced. As you can see, most of them have been brought over to the mobile app. Steam’s desktop chat also got an overhauled voice chat system, they stated: “A completely rewritten voice chat system that utilizes WebRTC over our private network (resulting in a higher quality, more secure voice chat experience).” This is something that didn’t make its way into Steam’s Chat mobile app as of now. So far the reviews have been positive on both Apple and Google’s respective app stores. You can download the Android version here and the iOS version here.
