In August 2022, Sony announced the “PlayStation Mobile Division” as part of an initiative to push big in the mobile gaming market, the primary goal of which was to introduce new and existing PlayStation IPs to the mobile platform. Following that, Sony also acquired a mobile game developer, Savage Game Studios.
Ultimate Sackboy is Sony’s next step towards this effort. LittleBigPlanet’s spinoff Ultimate Sackboy will join Android and iOS on 21st February 2023. Ultimate Sackboy is developed by a UK-based mobile gaming developer Exient who has previously worked on the mobile version of Lemmings.

Exient has collaboratively developed the Ultimate Sackboy with Sony. Exient describes Ultimate Sackboy as an endless runner with an ever-growing wardrobe of costumes and other cosmetics. The game’s core concept is similar to other running games, but Ultimate Sackboy will feature the pre-build tracks on which the Sackboy will run with his pals.
Similar to previous games, the game features customization for your Sackboy. You can earn costume pieces by opening sacks made in races or completing the daily races to earn one costume piece the next day. Costume pieces can be leveled up by using crafting materials, duplicate costume pieces and coins.
Daily Duel is another game mode that will test your skills. But as they say, With great risk comes great reward. Completing the Daily Duel will give you a sack full of new items to further customize your character. Ultimate Sackboy will be a free-to-play game.
It will be interesting to see what Sony will offer next on the mobile platform to empower its Mobile Gaming Initiative.
Head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst, briefed the plans of PlayStation and Sony regarding the mobile gaming sector in a PlayStation blog post:
As we assured you before with our plans to bring select titles to PC, our efforts beyond console in no way diminish our commitment to the PlayStation community, nor our passion to keep making amazing single-player, narrative-driven experiences.
Our mobile gaming efforts will be similarly additive, providing more ways for people to engage with our content, and striving to reach new audiences unfamiliar with PlayStation and our games.”
