Ubisoft May Revive the Prince of Persia Series

The Prince of Persia game series used to be considered one of Ubisoft’s most well-known releases. After the franchise started going downhill, Ubisoft hit the brakes and shifted focus onto Assassin’s Creed. The last Prince of Persia game from Ubisoft was The Forgotten Sands released in 2010. Since then, we have’t heard much about the future of the franchise. In January 2018, Ubisoft stated that the series is “on pause”, but the Prince of Persia quest in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey might suggest otherwise.

Prince of Persia

The Edge of Time Legendary Dagger is a weapon added to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in the recent Legacy of the First Blade DLC. The weapon can be obtained by looting a target from the Prince of Persia mission available as part of the DLC. Additionally, the Persian Elite Headband is another item that reminds us of Prince of Persia.

When a fan asked about the Prince of Persia, the game’s creator Jordan Mechner replied: “Chrissy, I know a few other people who feel the same way. We’re doing our best to make it happen!” Mechner put a lot of effort into keeping the franchise afloat. Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time was the most successful title in the series.

It’s been a while since Ubisoft updated fans about the status of the series. Ubisoft says that the series is on hiatus, which means the another sequel is still possible. The easter eggs found in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey could be an indication that Prince of Persia is coming back. If that is indeed what’s happening, it will be a long wait before another installment in the series is announced. Ubisoft is currently developing another title in the Beyond Good and Evil series. If Beyond Good and Evil 2 ends up a success, then the chances of Ubisoft reviving Prince of Persia will be significantly higher.
