Most issues on a MAC related to printer can be resolved by “Resetting the printing system”. This is a sort of a hidden feature that is not displayed by itself and has to be viewed by using a special key combination.
However, it won’t work if there are other issues with your printer such as if the printer is powered off, or if the printer is not connected to your wireless router; if it’s a wireless printer; or if for any reasons, printer has no connection the the system.
The first step is to check if the printer is properly connected to the mac or if it is a wireless printer ensure that it is connected to your wireless router.
Troubleshoot your mac printer issues
1. Click the Apple Icon from the top left corner and select System Preferences then select Print & Scan.
2. Hold the CTRL key on your keyboard and Click in an empty area under Printers to get the “Reset Printing System” option.
3. Click Reset Printing System. Then Click the + symbol to re-add the printer. If the printer is now added and shows as Idle then it is setup correctly – If it is not, then there is an issue with the connectivity as stated above.
You should make sure that it is connected before doing this again; it will not/never show up here unless the printer is properly connected which is the reason why you had the issue with your printer in the first place.
