Deadpool’s Director Tim Miller Replaced Borderlands Film Director

Borderlands is a popular shooter video games franchise by Gearbox Software and 2K Games. The Borderlands franchise was started in 2009, and there have been multiple games in the franchise since then, with the latest being New Tales from the Borderlands, which was developed by Gearbox Studio Québec and published by 2K games; it was released on October 21st, 2022.

Borderlands video games have seen massive success over the years, and as of November 2022, the franchise has collectively sold over 77 million copies worldwide.

In 2015, it was announced that a live-action film would be produced based on the Borderlands gaming franchise in collaboration with the well-known film studio Lionsgate. The genre of the film is the same as the tone of the Borderlands video games; action-packed shooters with a comedic touch.

Other than that, the film stars an ensemble cast featuring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Jamie Lee Curtis. It is produced by Ari, Avi Arad, and Erik Feig under their Arad Productions and Picturestart company banners, respectively.

However, even after 7 years of its announcement, there is not much information regarding the Borderlands film to chatter about; we only know that in November 2022, a film test screening was premiered, but no information about the film was released publicly. Although a black-and-white character shot was released as the first image from the film, nothing more than that was revealed.

Lionsgate | 2K Games

Today, Deadline reported that the director of the Borderlands film, Eli Roth, has been replaced by Deadpool’s director Tim Miller in the final stretch of the film’s reshoots as Roth moved on to join the filming of his next project.

Roth handed over the reins on two weeks of reshoots to his pal Miller because he has to get going with Thanksgiving, the horror film based on a mock trailer that Roth made for the Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez Grindhouse film.

Deadline also clarified that Eli Roth handed over the project to Tim on good terms, and he has not been fired. For those who don’t know, Eli Roth joined the Borderlands film project as a director in 2020 to portray his vision on the screenplay written by Craig Mazin. The film’s release date is also not confirmed yet, but the fans are waiting impatiently to experience this project as it has been in the works for years.

It will be interesting to see how the Borderlands film turns out to be. We hope that it fulfills the expectations of the fans. What are your thoughts about this change of directors in the final half of the reshoots? Do you think this will have a positive impact on the film? Let us know in the comment section below.
