Instagram Threads Crashes When Uploading Photo on iOS 17

Threads, the new Instagram app, launched earlier this week. While it has some great features, it also seems to be crashing a lot when users try to upload images.
We also have a detailed article on Threads, so if you're new to this app, make sure to give that a read.
This issue is limited to iOS 17 users, which is still in beta. As you can imagine, beta software is not always bug-free. However, there are a few workarounds that you can use to fix the crashing issue.
The Solutions
While the issue is widespread, it doesn’t mean that Threads in completely broken on iOS 17, there are still a few things you can try.
Copy and Paste Images from the Photos App
For some reason, Threads does not crash when you copy and paste photos from your Photos app. To do this, open the Photos app, long-press the photo you want to share, and select “Copy.” Then, open Threads and paste the photo.
Downgrade your iOS version to iOS 16
If you’re not comfortable with copying and pasting photos, you can downgrade your iOS version to iOS 16. To do this, you will need your iPhone, a Lightning Cable, and a PC, or a Laptop.
- Open iTunes on your computer.
- Put your iPhone into recovery mode. To do this, press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then, press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Finally, press and hold the Power button until you see the recovery mode screen.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer while it is in recovery mode.
- iTunes will prompt you to restore your iPhone. Click “Restore” to wipe your device and install the latest public release of iOS.
- Your phone will now reboot into iOS 16.
Instagram will hopefully release a fix to this soon, but if you’re eager to play around, well, downgrading to iOS 16 is your best bet.
