HBO and Naughty Dog have just revealed the very-first look at The Last Of Us show coming soon to HBO. The upcoming TV adaptation of the game has been met with acute scrutiny so far, particularly because of the casting choices and the general tense air surrounding The Last Of Us franchise at the moment. However, today’s reveal is sure to put a smile on even the harshest of critics. The picture comes courtesy of Last Of Us Day 2021 where the image was revealed to the world by Naughty Dog and HBO as part of the day’s celebrations.

The Picture Takes Us Right Back
We see Ellie and Joel standing side-by-side in a post-apocalyptic society destroyed by a deadly zombie virus. Both Ellie and Joel are wearing their iconic clothes from the first video game and the backpacks ridden with nostalgia take us straight back into their world. The attention to detail on their clothes and backpacks are also insane. The team has made sure the characters look as authentic to the source material as possible, down to the little imperfections in their outfits.
Even though we can’t see their faces, just seeing Ellie and Joel from the back feels the same as playing the game. You can also notice that the lighting is also tuned to match how the game looked. If that weren’t enough, the setting looks just out of the video game, too. In fact, the picture is so well-crafted in every way, that it literally looks like an in-game screenshot at first glance.
What We Can Expect
The show is based on the critically-acclaimed video game of the same name. While details about the story, plot, or characters has been kept under covers so far, the first-look gives us a good idea of what to expect when the show finally drops. It appears as if the team has decided to stick closely with the source material, at least visually, despite saying that the show will “deviate greatly” from the original game’s story in some episodes.
Speaking of which, the show currently has no release date but shooting is underway in Canada as we speak. Principal photography is set to conclude in June 2022 so don’t expect the show to come out before late 2022, that too at the earliest. Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann are attached to write and executive produce the series for HBO. Joel is being played by The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal, and Game Of Thrones’ star Bella Ramsey will be playing Ellie. The first season of the show will have 10 episodes.

Many have been skeptical about the show and its existence, questioning whether the titular game even needs a TV adaptation. That being said, Last Of Us has a strong chance at being something special, something more than just a video-game adaptation. With the team behind it, and now this first-look, the Last Of Us may just be the redeeming piece of the puzzle that fans have been asking for after TLOU2.
