The 5 Best PS4 Zombie Games to Play in 2021

Zombie games is a phrase that you do not hear that often. However, the thing that you must know here is that these games have dominated the genre for as long as one can remember. I still remember the opening scene of the original Resident Evil on PlayStation and hiding under a blanket. Needless to say, we have come a long, long way from those games, and for the better.

With modern graphical capabilities that the newer consoles are coming equipped with, it is only fair that the developers use these to their full extent. That is why we curated a list of the best zombie games that you can play on the PS4 this year.

Believe it or not, despite PS5 almost around the corner, these games still look and play amazing.

1. The Last of Us 2

The Last of Us took the world by surprise and ended up becoming one of the best games to ever release in the gaming industry. That being said, users were satisfied to the brink and when Naughty Dog announced that the game will be getting a sequel, the hype meter only broke with people speculating all sorts of theories.

The good thing is that the game did not get stuck in development hell and is releasing in May, later this year. Although not out, the Last of Us 2 is shaping up to be one of the best sequels, as well as one of the best continuations of one of the most beloved franchise, and that is definitely one of the best things that you can think of.

The game will be releasing on PS4 in a few months, and you will be able to take the role of Ellie and navigate the crucial re-imagination of a world that is no longer the same.

2. Resident Evil 3

Capcom’s decision to release the remake of the Resident Evil 2 was a huge risk that paid of. Not only did the game received a critical acclaim, it was a commercial and critical success and the fans of the original loved it. However, it was not just the fans of original, but even the newcomers to the series absolutely loved the game for all the rihgt reasons.

The release of Resident Evil 2 only raised a higher demand for the remake of Resident Evil 3, an installment that has lived under the shadow of just how great Resident Evil 2 was, despite being a prequel to the 2nd installment. Well, the prayers were answered when Capcom finally announced that is remaking the 3rd installment as well, and it is following the same route as they did with the 2nd one.

Needless to say, the Resident Evil 3 is one of the most hotly anticipated games, and we cannot tell you how excited we are to see just what exactly does Capcom bring to the table this time around. The game is releasing in April, later this year on all major platforms.

3. Dying Light 2

When TechLand released Dying Light five years ago, it quickly became a hit in a matter of months. While that was evident, what was more surprising was the developer’s relentless dedication to the update, releasing new content for the game without stopping. That is why even to this day, the original Dying Light is getting a healthy stream of content.

However, things took an interesting turn when the sequel was announced; this sequel is seemingly bigger, badder, and has a lot of zombie content than you would normally expect. The good news here is that the game is coming out rather sooner, than later. Even though the company has delayed the game, it is definitely releasing on the PS4 platform, along with other major platforms.

Dying Light 2 is definitely the zombie game to play if you are looking to have endless hours of fun smashing zombies.

4. Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition

Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition is an expansion of the original Dying Light video game and comes with a bunch of new enhancements. It features new characters, a new story campaign and the gameplay has also been tweaked a little.

You will be playing as Kyle Crane, an undercover agent who is charged with infiltrating a cult called Children of the Sun. The cult followers seem to have developed immunity to the virus that turns people into zombies. Something that Crane and other people living in the quarantined area have not been successful in doing.

Dying light is an open world game which means the scope of adventure is limitless. This is made all the more exciting by the fact that the map in the enhanced edition is 2x the size of the original game. The game’s arsenal has also been considerably upgraded. You will have access to new weapons such as revolvers, crossbows, and submachine guns. But my favourite is the dirt buggy vehicle that has been armoured up. You can use it to easily drive through a mass of zombies while mowing them down.

Graphically, the game is fantastic and has done a great job mimicking the real world environment. The gameplay is further enhanced by the ambient background music and solid game effects that fully immerse you into the game.

If you are one who likes a challenge then you will love the nightmare mode. It sets you up against the zombies during the night when they are strongest and will require high-level expertise to beat it.

5. Zombie Army Trilogy

During the last days of World War 2, while the Germans were facing defeat at the hands of the Allied forces, Adolf Hitler decided to come up with a one last resort plan using occult rituals to raise the legion of undead super soldiers that threaten to overwhelm the whole of Europe. Fight individually or fight as a team to save humanity from the zombie tragedy in this apocalyptic third-person shooter.

Apart from zombies, you will also have to fight with armoured skeletons, fire demons, and chainsaw elites before the ultimate battle between you and Hitler himself. However, it should be really fun taking down these legions of fans thanks to the large arsenal of weapons you will have access to. I am talking about powerful explosives and some of the best rifles that were available during the World War.

But my best weapon has to be the X-Ray Kill Cam that makes each kill even more dramatic by tracking the bullet for every successful shot in slow motion. Once the bullet hits the target you will be able to see the exact body part that has been hit and also the damage caused.

This game also features a horde mode where you will have to fight off a number of difficult waves of enemies in the ultimate survival challenge. You can either play alone or in coop mode of up to 4 players. There are 5 locations you can choose from the map.
