Updating to Windows 8.1 is pretty straight forward and very simple. But before you do that, it is recommended that you back up any important work/data/pictures/files before you begin the update to Windows 8.1 – Although, generally they are carried over to 8.1 after the update automatically but it is still recommended to back up just in case something goes wrong.
To begin, Go to the tiles mode and type Store to search for the Store app, and then click on it to open the Store.
Once the store opens, it will have a Windows 8.1 Tile – Click on the Windows 8.1 Tile in the Store (This is your update option).
Some users are given the message to install windows updates before updating to Windows 8.1. In order to install Windows updates, go to PC Settings or Hold Windows Key and Press C. Click Settings, then Change PC Settings and choose Windows Update and either turn on updates or install them.You will be shown this option on your screen.
After the updates have been installed, go back to the Store and click the Windows 8.1 Option again to start the update.
Once you hit the Windows 8.1 you should get the update progressing, this can take a couple of minutes depending on your internet speed, as it’s about 3GB in size.
