Square Enix Has Huge Plans Beyond Final Fantasy For 2023

It seems as if Square Enix has a lot planned for the upcoming year.

With the arrival of the new year, Square Enix sent out a letter to its fans in which they discussed the upcoming year and what fans may expect. Big games are in the works, they said, and the studio has more surprises in store. Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy XVI producer has teased fans with a message that hints at a “major announcement” coming later this year that is “unrelated to FFVII,” but won’t say what it is.

The development of [Final Fantasy VII Rebirth], which I produce, is also accelerating. In addition to this, we have a big announcement that we can’t say yet. 2023 will be a good year for everyone, and I would like to make [Final Fantasy fans] excited.”

Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service suffered an unexpected leak of unannounced games in 2021, and now we know for sure that two unreleased Final Fantasy titles are remasters of Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 9. After the leak, many of the games on the list were released, including a PC port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, a remastered version of Chrono Cross, and a number of additional games from various independent developers and publishers.

Regarding his statement, there is no concrete evidence to support any of his claims because there is so little information available regarding the announcement. Who knows what it is going to be; it may be anything, from a brand-new game to something that has nothing to do with the gaming industry at all.

We can only speculate as to what the announcement ‘unrelated to Final Fantasy’ might be, but this year is shaping up to be a huge one for fans of the series (particularly because of FF16). We will, however, keep you updated when new information becomes available.
