Sony announced today a new PlayStation Studios brand that the company aims to use for its upcoming PlayStation 5 games. The developer even made an animated intro that will run when launching its own games. Check out the neat little intro below:
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Senior Vice President at Sony Eric Lempel gave a rundown on what PlayStation Studios really is.
“Over the last few years — and even the last decade — the strength of the titles coming out from our studios has been stronger than ever,” says Lempel. “We have been thinking about how we unite all of these great games under one brand, and really the purpose of that is to make the consumer understand that, when they see this brand, they’re getting ready for a robust, innovative, deep experience that they’ve come to expect from games coming from PlayStation. So we came up with PlayStation Studios.”
The gaming industry is a rapidly growing one and there are more games available now than ever before. It seems that Sony’s new brand will help differentiate first-party and third-party games for console gamers. The studio’s animated intro will also be shown in its PlayStation 4 titles, but it won’t be ready for the upcoming summer releases of The Last of Us: Part II and Ghosts of Tsushima.
“If our studios are managing the production of these games and working with an external developer, it will still come out under the PlayStation Studios brand,” Lempel continues. “It doesn’t mean that we outright own the developer, but it just means we brought it up as a first-party. In a lot of cases we don’t own the developer.”
According to the senior vice president, another reason behind forming this studio was that the “average consumer” doesn’t always know which games are Sony products and which ones aren’t. Since the studio is responsible for so many incredible games, it would make sense why they want to highlight their achievements to everyone.
