According to leaks reported to SonyAlphaRumors, Alpha A7S II is likely to receive some impressive spec updates in the form of Alpha A7S III. If these rumors are to be believed then the specifications of this latest release are going to be quite interesting.
Although the exact number of camera pixels is unknown, the sensor will be Exmor RS. The A7S II was more video-focused and Alpha A7R III rather enthusiast-orientated. The latest upgrade to A7S II which might be called Alpha A7S III is going to have a stacked CMOS design along with integral memory. The sensor is also rumored to be superior to the one in Alpha 9 flagship models. As rumors follow, it is being speculated that the camera will have the capability to shoot 4K HDR video at 60p.
The updated camera will have the same body as that of A7 III and A7R III and will also have other improvements in AF joystick, AF-On button, and touchscreen interface.
Autofocus will definitely be one of the features as well. However, whether it will have Alpha A9’s 693-point AF system or A7R III’s 399-point AF system or something completely new is unknown. Moreover, it will be interesting to see if the video specs will also see an improved shape in the new version.
Sony remains skeptical regarding information leakage prior to any official announcement or release is made, therefore no confirmed and detailed specifications are yet known.
