Snapdragon 865 Plus First Qualcomm SoC To Break 3.0 GHz Frequency Limit With Special Kryo 585 CPU Prime Cores, Powerful Adreno 650 GPU, And FastConnect 6900

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus was officially announced today. The ‘Plus’ variant might be just 10 percent faster than the prevalent Snapdragon 865 SoC, however, it is the first to pack several advanced and powerful connectivity features that will make the upcoming Android flagship smartphones future-proof for quite some time.

Qualcomm has announced its Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G Mobile Platform. The enhanced variant of the Snapdragon 865 iteration is better in every sense. Incidentally, it is the first commercially-viable mobile chipset ever to break the 3.0 GHz frequency barrier, making it the most powerful processor for smartphones. Besides breaking the speed barrier, Qualcomm has embedded several important and future-ready technologies within Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus Mobile Platform Specifications, Features:

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC is essentially an improved version of the Snapdragon 865 SoC. The mobile platform uses the Kryo 585 CPU, which is also present in the Snapdragon 865. However, the Snapdragon 865 Plus is the first SoC from Qualcomm to break the 3.00GHz speed barrier.

The chipset’s Kryo 585 Prime Core is now running at 3.10 GHz instead of 2.84 GHz on the Snapdragon 865. The other performance and efficiency cores remain identical. The Snapdragon 865 Plus has 10 percent faster graphics rendering compared to the Snapdragon 865’s GPU. However, faster CPU and GPU clock speeds aren’t the only two things improved in the Snapdragon 865 Plus.

Qualcomm has deployed its advanced FastConnect 6900 suit. The next-generation wireless connectivity package includes Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 instead of Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 on the flagship silicon. New upcoming Android flagship smartphones with the SoC will be able to support Wi-Fi speeds up to 3.6 Gbps. Wi-Fi 6E expands Wi-Fi capacity by adding up to 1200 MHz of additional spectrum for Wi-Fi use. There are Dual Bluetooth Antennas, aptX Suite, and new LE audio features as well.

In terms of cellular connectivity, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC gets the Snapdragon X55 5G modem. This allows the mobile platform to be compatible with mmWave and sub-6GHz networks. The SoC is now capable of supporting 144Hz refresh rate displays, 8K video recording, capturing images with a resolution of 200MP, unlimited HD slow-motion video capture at 960 FPS, and other premium features.

Upcoming Android Flagship Smartphones With Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC:

ASUS and Lenovo have confirmed they will be embedding the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC within their premium flagship Android smartphones. The ASUS ROG Phone 3, the third iteration of no-compromise high-end mobile gaming premium Android smartphone should be the first one to launch with Snapdragon 865 Plus processor.

Lenovo has confirmed that its upcoming Legion sub-brand product, expected to launch this year, will pack the Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC. “’Lenovo Legion’ will be amongst the first to offer the new Snapdragon 865 Plus in our expanding family of gaming devices this year,” announced Lenovo.
