No doubt, Microsoft has overhauled most of its products over the years. Still, we should admit the fact that the slow pace doesn’t align with user expectations.
Skype has retained its traditional look and feel with some minor improvements for years. But at the same time, there are thousands of users who want Microsoft to bring some new customization options and features in the app.
Generally, Microsoft uses UserVoice platform to get feedback from the users about its services. The Skype Ideas page has received a long list of feature requests. Notably, the Skype team is already working on most of them for the past two years which is annoying for the users. Here are three highly anticipated features that are still in works:
High CPU consumption has always been an issue for Windows 10 users. Same is the case with Skype, people often complain about the fact that the app is always running in the background. Since Skype is running in the idle mode, it should not consume CPU resources.
Hundreds of users voted in favor of the fact that Microsoft should address this issue. Microsoft confirmed that the company is working on it. However, a fix is not available even after two years. Moreover, those who installed Skype 8.55 noticed that the app now uses 6 processes rather than 4.
Almost all the popular chat apps allow users to customize notifications in the settings menu. Skype users highlighted the problem so that Microsoft should take appropriate action. They want a feature that would allow them to customize Skype notifications such as ringtones, startup and quit sound.

Skype users have always been longing for the ability to change their usernames. People are annoyed by the fact that they can change their names on all the documents including credit cards, passport, and employment records but not on Skype. The feature request received around a thousand votes but still, it is currently under development.
Skype confirmed that the company is working to bring the aforementioned features. However, no exact release date is available was announced at that time. You may need to wait for a while but at the end of the day, these enhancements would definitely contribute to Skype’s overhaul.
