Shadow Of The Tomb Raider To Have Wall Running Grappling And Swimming

What a wonderful week it has been for gaming. We saw DOOM Inferno’s gameplay trailer and Bethesda promising big updates for Quake Champions and also making it free to play permanently. But now we have new gameplay footage of Shadow Of The Tomb Raider from Gamespot.

Still from the gameplay clip.

This is a new gameplay clip from Gamespot, featuring Game Director Daniel Chayer-Bisson, showing off lush jungles and environments. The game will be published by Square Enix and is being developed by Eidos Montreal.

The video starts with Game Director Daniel Chayer-Bisson addressing players how Lara is more fleshed out as a character and how her previous encounter with Trinity has giver her a lot of experience, yet she needs to become one with the jungle, to succeed. This probably means we will see a lot of abilities in the game which will be related to the jungle setting of the game or maybe this has a more symbolic meaning.

The gameplay footage starts with Lara strapping on to her seatbelt, as her airplane is about to crash. This is a familiar start for most Tomb Raider games, many of them start from a wreck, and you have to arm yourself eventually.

Cut to gameplay, we see Lara sitting on a tree as she proceeds to take down NPCs left and right. Tomb Raider games have always been known for their emphasis on stealth, and this clip showcases it beautifully. The faithful bow from the previous game makes a comeback here, as we see Lara silently clearing up enemies. There has been a lot of emphasis on using the environment for combat, as we seen Lara picking up a can of gas and taking down a few enemies with it. NPC behaviour also seems natural, as they interact with each other and coordinate in combat, making the game seem all the more natural.

Daniel also talks about the new mechanics they have added in the game like grappling, wall running and full underwater exploration. There will also be some sort of an ancient city, acting as a central hub.

The last Tomb Raider game, Rise of the Tomb Raider was a timed exclusive for the Xbox and PC. This time we are going to see the launch of Shadow Of The Tomb Raider on all three platforms simultaneously including the PS4, Xbox and PC. Shadow Of The Tomb Raider is now available for pre-order and will release on 14th September 2018.
