Samsung takes the initiative in establishing 5G standards

5G wireless communication standards all set to hit the market as Samsung took the lead by hosting a 3GPP conference (Third Generation Partnership Project) in the companionship of more than 80 telecom companies  and 1500 standard experts including; Qualcomm, as well as major mobile operators such as Verizon, AT&T, NTT DoCoMo, KT and SK Telecom back in 2016. As an extension of the previously held meeting, another formal setup was brought together in Busan, Korea this year the purpose of which was to conclude the former unfinished tasks regarding setting standards for 5G wireless communication.

For 4G LTE to hit the market it took a surprisingly long span of time, a total of 48 months where the initial standardization study took 21 months and the practical work took a span of 27 months. Whereas Samsung just stepped up their game by releasing 5G standards in a relatively shorter time span of 27 months where the initial 12 months were spent in study and the later 15 months in the Phase-1 of 5G standardization. The sketched out plan is ready to be used and undergo Phase-1 the results of which will be interpreted in another meeting expected to take place in June.

Well here is why 5G is being hyped. The wireless communication upgrade will provide 20x more speed and performance in comparison to the previous in function currently and will be available within a period of 365 days however access all over the world is not promised yet.

Samsung has already registered 1254 patents under its name and has been declared by European Telecommunications Standardization Organization (ETSO). Samsung being a pro at what it does displayed the first ever video download and upload of 8K and 4K on a bullet train travelling at a speed of 200km/h using 5G.

5G is expected to grab the hype in the second half of 2018 besides the non-availability to masses. However when it does hit the Global market, there will be no time left for the local vendors to grab some patents.
