Unboxing Videos For The Radeon RX 7900 Series Go Live

A couple of days from now, AMD will unleash its RX 7000 GPUs on the market. Expected to deliver almost 65% more performance than the last generation, we can only imagine the power these GPUs hold. While performance is a crucial factor, aesthetics also play a role in which GPU to buy. NVIDIA reused Ampere’s design, albeit with slight modifications. The official unboxing videos for the RX 7900 GPUs show a stark design difference between both generations (RDNA2/RDNA3).

RX 7900 Design

Computerbase.de posted a detailed article comparing the RX 7900 series against various current-gen GPUs. The reference RX 7900 XTX is undoubtedly larger than its XT counterpart. In addition, only the XTX variant features AMD’s “Radeon” branding at the front of the GPU as highlighted by the images below. The source also mentioned that both GPUs use different cooling solutions. Furthermore, the 7900 XTX and the 7900 XT are equal in width (2.5 slots wide).

A comparison against the 6900 XT makes the change with this reference design very clear. The RX 6900 XT featured a mix of black and white, however, the 7900 XTX is a more simplistic approach. Both GPUs use a 2.5-slot design, though the 7900 XTX is larger in length.

All 4 GPUs are equipped with a 2×8 pin power connector, though the TDPs do vary. It seems that the newer GPUs could have been equal in length as compared to RDNA2, had AMD not opted for the futuristic curved edges.

Now for the moment of truth, the RTX 4080 is a mammoth when put up against the 7900 XT. Design differences aside, the size of the RTX 4080 alone will make you want a newer case. That was of course one of AMD’s main marketing strengths. Either way, it seems that the 7900 XT and even the XTX will fit into almost any build. Though, the same cannot be said for NVIDIA’s Ada GPUs.

Last but not least, the unboxing videos for these GPUs have also gone live from a wide range of content creators such as LTT, Gamer Meld, Optimum Tech, and JayzTwoCents

AMD did not reveal much about its upcoming technologies and performance apart from gaming benchmarks. RDNA3 will surely put NVIDIA in a tough spot, although we cannot say if AMD will deliver the same result for content creators.
