AMD RX 6700 XL Featuring 10GB Of VRAM Spotted In the Wild

The RX 6700 lineup only saw the -XT variant for a very long period of time. Allegedly, the non-XT or the XL variant was being sold to miners during the massive crypto boom. Tbourside on Twitter shared a few images of this rare GPU from XFX

The Specifications

The GPU features a triple-fan design at the front. Moving to back, we see the ‘QICK‘ logo and the XFX logo carved in the backplate. The GPU from the provided images looks very dust and shows that the GPU has been subject to heavy usage (possibly mining).

The normal RX 6700 XT ships with 12GB of VRAM on a 192-bit bus while consuming 230W of power. The official RX 6700 non-XT on the other hand is powered by 10GB of VRAM over a 160-bit bus and the TDP is rated at 175W. The non-XT variant was formally introduced back on June 9, 2022. Its history before that is slightly complicated.

History

As explained by Videocardz, AMD gave these cut-down Navi 32 (RX 6700 non-XT or XL) chips to AIB partners before the actual announcement. However, the AIBs opted to ship these GPUs specifically to miners tagged as ‘BC-2235‘. Many claim that the ‘mining’ variant of the 6700 is restricted to 140W of power which makes it quite clear that these GPUs were used by cryptominers.

Should You Buy

As far as we have seen, the official RX 6700 GPUs are not particularly easy to find. Besides, the RX 6700 XT is a better buy due to the uncertain pricing of the 6700. Now, what about the performance? RandomGaminginHD posted a video on YouTube comparing the 6700 non-XT against NVIDIA’s RTX 3060 Ti. Spoiler alert, it performs almost identical while consuming less power.
